About the event
Date: September 14th, 2025
Time: Arrival @10:15am, 11:30 launch & kayak!
Finish at approximately 2pm
Cost: $75 per single-person kayak
For: Students ages 10+ (One parent per student, or drop-off and pick-up option available)
Join us for an unforgettable urban adventure paddling down the Los Angeles River through the scenic Elysian Valley. This section of the river is a mix of calm stretches and exciting small rapids, perfect for beginner to intermediate paddlers. No experience is necessary.
Along the way, participants will:
Learn about the river’s fascinating history, from concrete channel to a revitalized waterway.
Discover how the LA River became a recreational gem for Angelenos.
Explore the unique urban ecosystem that supports herons, egrets, kingfishers, turtles, fish, and native riparian plants.
Discuss the role the river plays in our city’s watershed and how we can be advocates for its protection.
Gain paddling and river safety skills while navigating a kayak through moving water.
This is an urban educational adventure where students connect with nature right in the heart of Los Angeles.
Requirements:
Must be age 10 or older.
Must be able to move and handle a kayak.
Contact us if the kayaker is over 220lbs
Must be a good listener and able to follow instructions for safety.
After registering, you will receive a detailed email with meeting points, what to bring, and additional event information.

~An "Everything You Need to Know" email will be sent out before the event with all of the details
~Please not that after 10am on Friday morning, this is a non-refundable event. Transferrable is okay.
~No student should miss out because of cost. Scholarships, made possible by community donations and the LA River Expeditions organization, may cover part or all of the fee. Please contact us if you’d like to learn more.
