About the event
We have put together a very special adventure for your curious young astronomers at the Griffith Observatory!
Be sure to register for our other events that will bring together a lot of the information presented. Find all of these on our events page:
September: Mt. Wilson Night/ Overnight, Intertidal Ecology at the Tidepools, and the NASA JPL Tour
October: Rocktober Caving and Astronomy in Joshua Tree
November: Griffith Observatory! Keep reading...
Griffith Observatory Private Tour Schedule:
4pm: Meet on the Griffith Observatory lawn where students will have a warm-up activity and meet other HFAC friends. Our tour will begin shortly after.
6pm: Planetarium Show!
7pm: Families can walk around to view the many telescopes and speak to Griffith Observatory PhD astrophysicists
Please note: Our tour technically ends at the Planetarium Show. After the show, students will stay with their chaperone/parent for the remainder of the evening to look through the many telescopes available. We are guessing that families may stay until about 8pm or so.
About:
The Griffith Observatory inspires everyone to observe, ponder, and understand the sky.
Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California’s most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighborhood. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and is visible from many parts of the Los Angeles basin. The Observatory is the best vantage point for observing the world-famous Hollywood Sign. Since opening in 1935, the Observatory has welcomed over 85 million visitors. Open late nearly every evening, Griffith Observatory’s audience is “the general public,” and it is one of the rare places where you will see people from every part of the region and from all parts of the world.
