About the event

ASTROCAMP

Science, Space & Adventure!

March 5–7, 2027

Friday–Sunday

Idyllwild, California

Rockets, lasers, rock climbing, ropes courses, and a weekend in the mountains with friends!

We're heading to AstroCamp for three days and two nights of hands-on science, outdoor adventure, and exploration in the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains. AstroCamp is an outdoor science school where students learn by doing. Through interactive experiments, engineering challenges, and outdoor activities, students will explore astronomy, physics, space science, and the natural world while building confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

What Can We Experience?

AstroCamp offers a wide variety of science and adventure activities. Depending on our final selections, students may have opportunities to:

  • Rockets & Engineering: Build and launch rockets, experiment with flight and motion, and design planetary landers that can survive a crash landing.

  • Lights & Lasers: Explore the science of light through laser experiments, reflection, and optical challenges.

  • Electricity & Magnetism: Experiment with electrical circuits, magnetic forces, and the science behind everyday technology.

  • Astronomy & Space Exploration: Observe planets, stars, and galaxies through telescopes, explore our solar system, and learn how scientists study the universe.

  • Meteorite Exploration: Search for tiny micrometeorites and learn what these pieces of space can tell us about our solar system.

  • Rock Climbing & Ropes Courses: Test your balance, build confidence, and work through challenges both on the ground and high above it!

  • Ziplining & Outdoor Adventure: Experience the excitement of the zip line and other adventure challenges while encouraging and supporting one another.

  • Mountain Ecology: Explore the forest, learn about the wildlife and geology of the San Jacinto Mountains, and discover the science happening all around us.

  • Evening Activities: Spend evenings exploring astronomy, participating in group activities, and enjoying camp life with friends.

Our final schedule will include a selection of AstroCamp's available programs, led by their instructors and HFAC educators.

And there's so much more to camp than the activities! It's sharing meals, laughing with friends, trying something that feels a little intimidating, and discovering what you're capable of.
