Ready to Take the Mic?

Say What Matters.

Share your ideas, experiences, concerns, hopes, and solutions for the ocean. We are all connected, and your community is listening.

Our next speaking event is on September 12, 2026 in Avalon, Catalina Island.

Keep reading for more details and to apply.

Your voice can help people see the world differently.

Share your ideas, experiences, concerns, hopes, and solutions for the ocean. We are all connected, and your voice can inspire others to listen, learn, and take action!

Whether you've participated in a cleanup, explored tidepools, gone diving, paddled, surfed, completed a school project, or simply care about the future of our planet, your perspective matters.

Take the Mic is a prepared panel discussion where young people share their ideas, experiences, solutions, and sources of inspiration. You do not need to be an experienced public speaker. Discussion topics will be provided in advance, and speakers will have time to prepare their thoughts. A short speech or opening statement is welcome, but the heart of the event is an honest conversation.

Selected participants will join two online preparation sessions with Ms. Rebecca Escamilla, a passionate public speaking professor who teaches at colleges and universities in California and Texas. Together we'll build confidence, organize ideas, and prepare for the live discussion.

Applicants must be available for Zoom preparation sessions from 6pm-7pm on the following dates:

  • Monday, August 31

  • Monday, September 7

Children, teens, college students, and early-career adults are encouraged to apply.

✓ No public speaking experience required.
✓ Just bring your ideas, curiosity, and your voice.

Apply on this page and tell us what you want the world to hear!
