About the event

Wilderness First Aid for Youth & Teens

San Dimas, CA

10:00am–1:30pm each day

Date TBD

This two-day Wilderness First Aid course is designed for youth and teens ages 10–18 who spend time outdoors and want practical skills to stay safe and help others when emergencies happen far from immediate medical care.

The training is hands-on and scenario-based, with students learning by doing rather than sitting through lectures. Participants practice assessing injuries, managing common wilderness emergencies, and making calm, organized decisions under pressure. Activities include guided scenarios, team challenges, games, and real-world problem-solving that help students build confidence and feel prepared for outdoor adventures.

Students will learn:

  • Scene safety and patient assessment

  • Bleeding control and wound care

  • Sprains, fractures, and improvised splinting

  • Environmental emergencies, including heat, cold, and dehydration

  • Bites, stings, allergic reactions, and common outdoor illnesses

  • Evacuation decision-making, communication, and when to seek help

  • Teamwork, leadership, and calm decision-making during emergencies

This course provides a certificate of completion and is designed as a foundational wilderness first aid training. Instruction is led by a professional outdoor educator and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) with extensive experience guiding youth in outdoor and field-based environments.
