Details:
Our event is focused on peer-to-peer communication. How to read body language, make eye contact, problem solve with a group, identify how decisions are made, explore different leadership styles, how their individual leadership style affects a group, understand and face fears, and examine various techniques of communication.
Students will learn that fear is an emotion that you can learn how to control. Risk taking is a healthy essential part of the learning process. Physical safety and emotional safety take precedence over all individual and program goals. By working with and supporting others in challenging situations, individuals develop leadership, communication, problem-solving and trust-building skills. Individuals choose the level and degree of their own participation. This provides an opportunity to meet potentially difficult or frightening challenges in a supportive and respectful environment, and a chance to back off when pressure and self-doubt become too strong. Although adrenaline rushes are part of what make our course exciting; education is our primary goal. The most successful programs take into account human nature to ensure the participant is in the best place to learn and grow.
What will the day look like?
The day will start with a gathering of Evergrow students and families. We will settle in, meet each other, and get ready for our exciting day together! After our personal gathering, the HFAdventure Community and OCRopes Staff will start with the the Grass Top Challenge Course containing challenges close to the ground. Activities on the Low Challenge Course are designed to help our students gain insight into group process and how individuals perform in team situations. They consist of physical and mental problems that the group must work together to solve.
Then we head over to the ropes challenge course built up to 60 feet above the ground. The three-tier course tests your agility, balance and strength on 4 to 32 fascinating obstacles (Burma Buckets, Criss-Cross, Tight Ropes, Zig Zag). Those who choose to participate are outfitted with harnesses and are clipped into cable systems that allow them to climb and participate in a variety of challenges safely. Participants can safely take risks while navigating physical challenges highlighting trust and support within teams. Those that do not choose to participate can watch, learn, support, and encourage their friends.
Depending on the number of participants enrolled in this outing, we may have a few climbing stations to parctice trust and teamwork with each other! More details will be given closer to the event.
Parents are welcome to drop their students off, join the fun, or stay to watch!
Thi is a large park - for those that do not want to do the course or have younger students, there is plenty of space to ride bikes or kick a soccer ball, and ther is a playground to enjoy as well.
Be prepared for your day on the Challenge Course:
*Come prepared with lots of energy, an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow.
*Remember to pack a lunch and a water bottle. You will have an activ event, so please pack a big, healthy snack with whole nutritious foods.
*Please wear closed shoes, such as boots or sneakers. You are not allowed to participate if you are wearing sandals. Long hair needs to be up and pulled back (braids are best)
*Remember to dress for the weather which changes a lot! Wear layers and dress more warmly than you think you will need. We will be spending all of our time outside so be prepared with weather-proof gear. Being comfortable outside will enable you to have fun and learn more.
*Bring a camping chair and picnic blanket if you like!
If you have any questions before registering, contact HFAC and we will help.
Please note: Ticket is non-refundable.
For charter funds, please RSVP and use Manual Payment at checkout. Then, submit to your charter school. We are partnered with about 15 schools...check to see if we are a vendor for yours!
Our ending time is approximately 4:30 pm. The reason this is approximate is because this is an event that requires conquering fear. This process may take longer for some, and we give each person time to process each step without pressure. There are three levels to the course. Conquering fear to one person may be doing the first level, and to another, it may be jumping off the 60' platform. We honor and respect everyone's personal challenge level and are there to support.
Okay Evergrow Fam...See you at the ropes!!
